2022-23U.S. News美國大學(xué)排名，哥倫比亞大學(xué)重回 1988！

想必，大家已經(jīng)被前兩日的2022-23年U.S. News 美國大學(xué)排名刷屏，今年排名，TOP 學(xué)校變化不多，變化最大的便是哥倫比亞大學(xué)，從去年的排名第 2，直降到第 18，再次成為全場焦點(diǎn)。

在新排名公布之前，上周五 9 月 9 日，哥大學(xué)校長 Mary Boyce 宣布，基于今年 2 月本校數(shù)學(xué)教授 Michael Thaddeus 提出的質(zhì)疑，學(xué)校已經(jīng)投入大量時(shí)間，對排名數(shù)據(jù)及其收集流程進(jìn)行深入調(diào)查。

調(diào)查結(jié)論為：

On two of the metrics questioned by our faculty member, class size and faculty with terminal degrees, we determined we had previously relied on outdated and/or incorrect methodologies. We have changed those methodologies for current and future data submissions, as reflected in the newly posted Common Data Sets.

在課堂人數(shù)、全職教師擁有終極學(xué)位這兩個(gè)數(shù)據(jù)上，學(xué)校采用了過時(shí)以及/或者錯(cuò)誤的方法。學(xué)校已經(jīng)對此進(jìn)行修正，更新數(shù)據(jù)發(fā)布在新的 Common Data Sets（以后簡稱 CDS）。

In some cases, class size data was previously reported incorrectly and not in compliance with the U.S. News instructions. While many of Columbia’s undergraduate classes have long had under 20 students, the prior methodologies used resulted in overreporting the number of classes with under 20 students and underreporting of classes with between 20 and 29 students.

全職教師擁有終極學(xué)位比例 

哥大對于該數(shù)據(jù)的定義，與 CDS 不符，導(dǎo)致數(shù)據(jù)夸大?，F(xiàn)已經(jīng)嚴(yán)格按照 CDS 要求修正，更新數(shù)據(jù)為：全職教師擁有終極學(xué)位占比 95.3%。

對這兩個(gè)數(shù)據(jù)錯(cuò)誤，學(xué)校表示歉意：

..anything less than complete accuracy in the data that we report -- regardless of the size or the reason -- is inconsistent with the standards of excellence to which Columbia holds itself. We deeply regret the deficiencies in our prior reporting and are committed to doing better.

就在 U.S. News 排名公布之前，哥大發(fā)布了更新之后的 CDS 數(shù)據(jù)。

今年 2 月，哥大數(shù)學(xué)教授 Michael Thaddeus 提出多項(xiàng)質(zhì)疑。他指出，top-tier 一流大學(xué)在排名中一般波動(dòng)不大。極少數(shù)或有少許提升。但還沒有像哥大這樣，從 1988 年剛加入排名時(shí)的第 18 位，一年之后躍到第 8，2021 年大幅跨越到第 2。

今年 6 月，哥大宣布對排名數(shù)據(jù)和收集流程進(jìn)行調(diào)查，暫不為 U.S. News 最佳大學(xué)本科排名提供數(shù)據(jù)。

U.S. News 曾就 2021 年秋季數(shù)據(jù)對哥大發(fā)出多次詢問。因一直沒有收到學(xué)校答復(fù)，今年 7 月，U.S. News 從去年發(fā)布的 2022 大學(xué)排名中把哥大移除，列為 Unranked。

有意思的是，在剛剛發(fā)布的 2023 美國大學(xué)排名中，哥大重回排名榜。只不過，這次，重新回到 1988 年的第 18 名。這是近 20 年來，哥大第一次掉出前 10 名之外。

對此，U.S. News 解釋說：

We are not confident in the accuracy of the data Columbia submitted and did not use any prior year data.

For the 2022-2023 rankings, Columbia’s rank was calculated with data from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, data from the peer assessment survey conducted by U.S. News, the College Scorecard and assigned competitive set values for data where no third-party data exists. Based on those data sets, Columbia ranks No. 18 in national universities.

由于對哥大數(shù)據(jù)缺乏信心，我們沒有采用哥大提供的往年數(shù)據(jù)。2022-23 排名，是根據(jù)美國教育部統(tǒng)計(jì)數(shù)據(jù)、U.S. News 同行評價(jià)、College Scorecard 等其他數(shù)據(jù)來源。綜合這些數(shù)據(jù)，哥大在美國大學(xué)中排名第 18。

U.S. News 為 11,500 所大學(xué)、數(shù)以千計(jì)獨(dú)立項(xiàng)目發(fā)布最佳排名。每年有大約 0.1% 的學(xué)校出現(xiàn)數(shù)據(jù)問題。但像哥大這樣曾位居第 2 的歷史悠久著名藤校出現(xiàn)問題，確實(shí)非常少見。

盡管哥大為修正數(shù)據(jù)作出努力，并宣布不為 2022-23 U.S. News 排名提供數(shù)據(jù)，U.S.News 仍然發(fā)布了這個(gè)排名上的大幅落差，再次讓哥大成為輿論焦點(diǎn)。

兩個(gè)發(fā)布時(shí)間如此接近，似乎暗示著，各方試圖協(xié)調(diào)到最后一分鐘的多場拉鋸戰(zhàn)。
